Students engaged in the act of learning, thinking like scientists, asking questions, exploring their world and solving problems. Sounds great, doesn't it? Unfortunately, this doesn't happen often enough in our schools today. In an era where teacher performance is tied to student performance assessment data on state and national standardized tests, it is hard to feel like we can give up valuable class time to let our students truly explore and engage in the hands-on types of learning that will motivate students to want know more. As educators, we know that project-based learning works, but we often steer away from it because it takes too much time and is not always easily assessed. How can we find a balance, a way to incorporate more of this project-based learning and yet still make sure students will be successful on those tests we, as educators, must prepare our students for?
The purpose of this website is to map out how I plan to transform learning in my classroom through a project-based approach and use of technology that will provide more classroom time for hands-on, experiential learning to take place and continue to prepare students for success on required standardized tests.
